0001 PBorder.TXT - General Notes and PolyLine breakdown of PBorder.pnt 0002 0003 You May have noticed the unusual drawing order of the polylines. 0004 0005 Some programs such as VersaMap can use this database, but can't 0006 provide a fill capability. When importing the map program's vector 0007 output into a draw program the interior of each polygon will have 0008 no color. As a result, to select a polygon you have to click on 0009 the polygon's border. 0010 0011 To provide a standard area for selecting ANY polygon (in the Draw 0012 Program), each one is drawn so that its EASTERN border is on top of 0013 any other polygon around it. 0014 0015 Once a polygon has a fill color you can click anywhere on the fill 0016 to select it. 0017 0018 Problem Areas to Watch for: 0019 --------------------------- 0020 0021 PROBLEM AREA #1: 0022 At Data base Levels 1 & 2 a number of polylines in PBorder.pnt, PCoast.pnt, 0023 PIsland.pnt, and PCanProv.pnt exceed the maximum number of points (NODES) 0024 in a polyline imposed by MicroCAM (MicroCAM will display a message when 0025 it breaks a polyline), VersaMap (1999 nodes), and the "IMPORT" filters of 0026 most Draw Programs (usually 1801 nodes for HPGL, 1999 nodes for most other 0027 vector formats). 0028 0029 I understand that some CAD programs don't have this problem. 0030 0031 Once the graphic is in a Draw Program you can manually connect the broken 0032 nodes and save it in the Draw Program's Native File format; the polygons 0033 will remain intact. 0034 0035 Tip: To get at the broken nodes grab the corners of the graphic and enlarge 0036 it to the Maximum size the Draw program will allow (Page size of 30 in. 0037 by 30 in. for Corel Draw). 0038 0039 If you "EXPORT" the file to another vector format the polygons that 0040 exceed the MAX NODE LIMIT will be broken again. 0041 0042 Use of SELECT.EXE from the original MWDB II may be helpful here if your 0043 map program doesn't allow changing the database point level. 0044 0045 PROBLEM AREA #2: Related to problem area #1 (broken polylines) is the 0046 fact that programs with a zoom capability or the ability to change the 0047 central latitude/longitude of the projection will break the polygon 0048 when the polyline intersects the map's borders. These areas still 0049 have to be fixed with the draw program you use. 0050 0051 PROBLEM AREA #3: 0052 Avoid "MIXING" MWDB-POLY with data from older versions of MWDB II.
